Thank you for your prayer support over the past few weeks! The spiritual battle was very visible in Haiti, and I praise God for sustaining Rod and me, allowing us to share hope with so many there. Please continue to pray that God would break chains and draw people to Himself, filling them with His Spirit so that His glory may be seen.
Although the pain is deeper and the obstacles are higher than I could do anything to overcome, the Rock that is higher than I is the Overcomer. There is hope for Haiti in Him. It feels like Rod and I did so little to actually help the situation: assessing sites for water provision and installing a few systems…Just a few drops in the massive bucket of need. But, delivering on what we said we would do and offering hope among people is so worth our short time there. God can and will grow the impact. I remember the day we were at the Morne Rouge (Red Mountain) shelter site when I gave a hungry boy an energy bar, the only food I had with me. He was quickly surrounded by more kids, and he broke pieces for them. Somehow each of the dozen kids received a piece. Praise God for stretching what He gives us to give away to others!
When we assembled water systems, many in the community gathered to watch. Communities then began to collect clean water once clean water was available. Clean drinking water is a wonderful thing, but the systems can run dry if not properly maintained by the trained operator. People must keep returning to collect new water each day as what they take is diminished. Jesus said that everyone who drinks of water that He gives will never be thirsty again–His water becomes a spring of living water welling up to eternal life (John 4:14). I pray that God uses Rod and my words and actions to point to Himself so that many would be filled with the knowledge of Him and His living water, not just water to quench physical thirst.
Even though most of our conversations and prayers with people were brief, as we asked specific questions and worked with the people to install systems, God is more than able to expand what we said and soften hearts with His Spirit. Praise be to Him for this opportunity to run to the pain and brokenness in Haiti!
May the King of the broken mend, heal, and forgive this nation and fill them with the hope of salvation through Jesus.
